AI is eating venture capital. All of it.

Crunchbase data shows venture funding to AI hit $212 billion in 2025 — up 85% year over year from $114 billion in 2024 — surpassing every single year of the past decade, including the peak global funding year of 2021. Nearly half of all global venture dollars went to AI-related fields. Then 2026 showed up: just two weeks in, more than 200 funding rounds had already closed, totaling over $25 billion — a figure that includes Elon Musk's xAI pulling in a $20 billion Series E.
