Two weeks later, the condo was gone, and they were officially homeless.
From dock-life to moving aboard full-time
They bought Raicilla back in 2021, but not with an immediate move aboard in mind. The condo sold, and they were moving aboard a sailboat full-time.
Life at the dock made for a gentle transition from land to sea. But once they untied the lines, things became very real.
There was the expected list: boat work that never really stops, storage that turns into a daily puzzle, and weather running the show. Small boat, big logistics. Paddleboards and surfboards on the aft rails, extra fridge and freezer space, and a clothing system that apparently includes buying pants when they get back to Canada. The big question is simple: “Where will it go, and what has to leave to make room?”
But the surprising part wasn’t just gear or weather. It was the constant goodbyes, and how long everything takes. The cruising community is social, bonds form fast, and everyone is on their own path.
