Listen to today's tech podcastAI skepticism, with a side of "Big Data Hater"
Question the Holy Grail of progress and you get called a Luddite. Question it on CNBC and you get called "Big Data Hater." The argument here is simple: Big Data often became Bad Data, and today's Large Language Models suffer from the same garbage-in, garbage-out problem with better branding. Meanwhile, the roadkill is real โ pension funds, laid-off workers, kids with addiction machines in their pockets, adults stalked by ads for things they already bought. The promised innovations are just around the corner. The consequences are already here. On the upside: AI has freed at least one generation from trite work emails, and it can turn meetings that should have been emails into summaries of those emails.
Gobble's Take: Every bubble gets a new name. Big Data, Large Language Models โ same GIGO machine, shinier label. The hype moves fast. The roadkill doesn't.
