The most concrete surprise today: Pukani rock has an organic, open structure full of nooks, crannies, and deep crevices.

Fiji Pukani rock is back on the scene

Fiji Pukani rock from Marcorocks is back, and it comes from Walt Smith International as a sustainably harvested option with a wide mix of shapes and sizes for your aquascape. It’s lightweight, highly porous, and built for reef keepers who want both visual interest and biological filtration capacity. If your taste runs to rock with lots of nooks and crannies, this is very much that rock. Its open structure can anchor coral frags and create hiding spots for fish and invertebrates, and it can be shaped, drilled, or broken apart with a hammer and chisel. Aquascapers also use acrylic rods, reef-safe epoxy, or mortar to build overhangs, bridges, and shelf systems. One caution: when placed directly into a tank, the organic matter may leach phosphates into the water column, so adding phosphate adsorption media for a few weeks may be prudent in an existing reef.
