Lauryn Hill gets the Living Legend Icon treatment
Lauryn Hill was honored Sunday night at the 2026 BET Awards as the inaugural recipient of the Living Legend Icon Award, with Doechii, SZA, Doja Cat, Queen Latifah, Nas, Ice Cube, Wyclef, and more paying tribute as she accepted the prize. BET says the award celebrates "the pioneers who mastered their craft and never let go of the culture," and Connie Orlando called Hill the very definition of a living legend. The tribute ran through the kind of career recap that makes "Culture's Biggest Night" sound like an understatement.

John Oliver is taking his act to daytime soapland
John Oliver revealed he'll guest star on "General Hospital" in a three-episode storyline airing July 2, 3, and 6, announcing the news on the June 28 episode of "Last Week Tonight." Executive producer Frank Valentini called Oliver prepared, professional, funny, and genuinely kind to everyone on set. Oliver, for his part, called it "a true honor to be a small stain on the history of this illustrious show."
Gobble's Take: Few career pivots say "I contain multitudes" quite like trading the late-night monologue for Port Charles.

Sylvia Rhone gets her flowers, and then some
Kelly Rowland presented Sylvia Rhone with the Ultimate Icon Award at the 2026 BET Awards, recalling the days she first met Rhone as a member of Girls Tyme. Rhone, also feted by Monami Entertainment & BMAC during BET Week, used her speech to make two things clear: the honor belongs to everyone who creates culture, and "Music needs us to stand up for it like never before because we are living through a time of massive technological change."
Gobble's Take: When the room gives you a standing ovation and you still sound like the only adult in the building, that is an icon move.
