Western Australia mpox: seven new cases in a week, contact tracing underway
The Western Australia Department of Health reported seven mpox cases in the past week, with public health investigations and contact tracing now active. The state has recorded 22 cases so far in 2026 โ and notably, two of this year's cases were cisgender women, a first for WA.
Gobble's Take: The real story isn't the number โ it's that officials are chasing the chain before it grows one. That's exactly what you want to see.

Uganda: more Ebola cases reported in Kampala
More Ebola cases have been reported in Kampala. Separately, the CDC also issued a Level 2 travel notice for Uganda due to an outbreak of Bundibugyo virus disease (BVD), which spreads through contact with contaminated objects โ clothing, bedding, needles, medical equipment โ and infected animals including bats and nonhuman primates; symptoms include fever, headache, muscle pain, weakness, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, and unexplained bleeding or bruising. Early supportive care, the report notes, improves the chance of survival.
Gobble's Take: When a report leads with transmission routes and closes with the value of early care, that's not background noise โ that's a quiet alarm. Move fast.
