Knicks sweep the Cavaliers, Mitchell apologizes and says "That's ass"

For 3 ½ quarters, the Cleveland Cavaliers looked ready to compete with the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference finals — then they blew a 22-point lead in Game 1. The Knicks cruised to a dominant sweep capped by Monday's runaway win in Game 4 to secure their place in the NBA Finals. Donovan Mitchell apologized to fans after the loss: "I'm sorry for the city of Cleveland for it to be like this in a sweep," then added, "That's ass." He followed with a vow: "We'll be back, we'll be ready and we'll be locked in." Mitchell also made clear he sees his future with the Cavaliers: "I love it here. I don't know any other way to say it."

Gobbles Gobble's Take: Mitchell owned the result plainly, and the Knicks are headed to the NBA Finals.

Cavaliers' future uncertain after embarrassing sweep to Knicks

The Cavaliers' future is uncertain after being swept by the New York Knicks. Cleveland head coach Kenny Atkinson said he was "disappointed for the group," adding that ownership and the front office gifted them "a wonderful roster." Together, Harden and the Cavaliers reached the conference finals for the first time since 2018, but could not win a single game against the Knicks. The Cavs also cannot possibly justify paying Mitchell, Harden, Mobley and Allen the $170 million it would cost to keep them together next season.

Gobbles Gobble's Take: The Cavaliers reached the conference finals for the first time since 2018, were swept without winning a game, and now face serious questions about what comes next.
