Atlanta Added to CDC Ebola Screening Program

The CDC has added Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to its Ebola screening program, with checks now available for travelers arriving back in the United States from Ebola-stricken countries. This is a targeted public health screening point, not a blanket check for all travelers.

Atlanta joins Washington Dulles and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) as one of three designated entry points through which all flights from Ebola-affected countries must now travel for CDC screening. The airport, the world’s busiest by passenger volume, is now set up to support Washington Dulles with expanded screening as of May 22 at 11:59 PM.

For travelers: this is a public health layer tied to recent travel to affected countries, not a general airport disruption. There have been no confirmed Ebola cases in the United States, while the outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo continues to grow.

Gobbles Gobble's Take: Another line at the airport no one planned for — but at least this one is meant to catch trouble before it becomes everybody’s problem.
