87-year-old woman: that’s who was targeted by a phone fraud scheme before Sherbrooke police arrested three suspects on June 15.
Sherbrooke police say a caller posing as a bank representative tried to get bank cards
The Sherbrooke Police Service says an 87-year-old woman was targeted by a phone fraud scheme, and a caller posing as a bank representative tried to obtain her bank cards. The caller asked her to hand over her credit card and bank card, saying it was part of an investigation. Police say three suspects were arrested after they came to the location to take possession of the cards. The suspects were aged 34, 39, and 45, were questioned, and were released on a promise to appear. Police say possible charges include fraud and extortion, and they say these calls particularly target elderly people. Police advise anyone who suspects they are being targeted to hang up.
Gobble's Take: If a caller says it’s “part of an investigation,” pause and hang up.
