The scam landscape is still running hot
The latest U.S. Consumer Scam Threat Assessment says the Threat Dashboard Index is 8.42, up from 8.29 on May 26, and all ten top threats are still in the High/Critical band. It also says net velocity is up 13 weighted points across the top 10.
The fact pack also says Google rolled out Fake Call Detection on Android June 2, and it notes that operators are shifting into hotels, apartment buildings, and rented office space that can be deployed and abandoned in days.
Gobble's Take: When the fraud scoreboard stays in the High/Critical band, the safest move is to pause, verify, and not rush the call.
