Common elements show up again and again in NDE reports
Researchers have identified common elements of near-death experiences including feelings of being outside one's body, visions of deceased loved ones or religious figures, and transcending normal senses of time and space. Common reported experiences also include peace, a bright light or tunnel, life reviews, and reluctance to return to one's body. Kenneth Ring identified five stages of NDEs ranging from feelings of peace to entering a bright light. NDEs have been associated with cardiac arrest, shock, coma, suicide attempts, drowning, and depression. While most NDEs share similarities, some can be distressing with dark feelings or hostile presences.
